Get back to nature in the tropical rainforest. Located on the famously diverse Tambopata River in the Peruvian Amazon, our exclusive G Lodge Amazon is both comfortable and intimate. Explore the jungle by canoe or on dry land trails, swim in the lodge's cool stream, or strap on a harness and rope up to the lodge's tree platforms for a bird's eye view of the forest—including close-ups of arboreal orchids.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Puerto Maldonado/Tambopata

    Arrive at the Puerto Maldonado airport and meet the naturalist guide to journey to the jungle lodge, spotting wildlife en route. Before dinner, head out for a night walk around the lodge. After a brief stop in town to store large luggage, drive to the pier and travel by covered motorized boat to the jungle lodge. En route, spot bird species typical of the river and forest edge—the Tambopata Rainforest holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area. Arrive at the lodge and enjoy a welcome drink and orientation. Head out for a night walk around the lodge grounds before dinner.

    Local community members make up the majority of lodge staff, including multilingual naturalist guides. Take the opportunity to learn about the area’s rich flora and fauna and the locals' extensive use of medicinal plants and other natural forest resources through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting.

  • Day 2

    Tambopata

    Enjoy guided excursions by expert naturalists to spot wildlife at nearby oxbow lakes and along jungle trails. Spend some time relaxing in a hammock, enjoying the local swimming hole or visiting a nearby plantation. Go for a caiman-spotting cruise after dinner. Head out early to catch the jungle at its wildest (and coolest). Walk slowly through the forest searching for wildlife before heading out on an oxbow lake by canoe.

    Search for anaconda, the elusive giant river otter, or black caiman. Even if you don't spot these shy creatures, there are plenty of other birds, interesting plants and other animals about.

  • Day 3

    Tambopata

    Take a boat excursion to a spectacular hidden lake. There's a chance to spot the elusive black caiman and giant otters. Return for lunch and another free afternoon for relaxing.

  • Day 4

    Tambopata

    Walk to the protected Brazil nut tree conservation area to appreciate the use of the product throughout history. View wildlife along the way. Enjoy a free afternoon. Walk to the Brazil nut tree conservation area and learn about the uses of this product throughout history. There will be opportunities to view wildlife and learn from the naturalist guide along the way.

    Return to the lodge and enjoy plenty of free time to relax, swim, or explore the rainforest trails surrounding the lodge.

  • Day 5

    Tambopata/Puerto Maldonado

    After breakfast, return by canoe to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for departure. Get an early start for the canoe trip back to Puerto Maldonado. On the way, look and listen for early morning wildlife—howler monkeys are frequently heard guarding their territory.

    Arrive at the port and take a van back to the lodge office to collect your luggage before heading to the airport.

    You will stay at the exclusive G Lodge Amazon for four nights. The lodge features a native architectural style with eco-friendly technology. Rooms are simple but comfortable, equipped with mosquito netting for beds, flush toilets, showers with solar-heated hot water, and candles for lighting as there is no electricity. Please be aware that hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru.
  • Is single occupancy guaranteed at the G Lodge Amazon?

    The G Lodge does not have single rooms. Single travelers or groups with odd numbers will be paired with another passenger of the same gender when the lodge is full. If you have booked this tour as a single traveler, you will have your own room throughout.

We recommend carrying a First Aid kit, hand sanitizers/antibacterial wipes, and any personal medical requirements. Our leaders are prohibited from administering any type of drug. Please assess your ability to cope with the travel style based on the physical rating.
  • What safety precautions should I be aware of during the trip?

    Always look after your personal items, avoid leaving valuables visible in cars or hotel rooms, and lock your room door. It is strongly recommended to use a neck wallet or money belt for important documents and cash. During free time, use your own good judgment when selecting activities. In cities, it's advised to stay in small groups and take taxis at night. Be aware that protests can occur, and water-based activities carry inherent risks, so only participate when accompanied by a guide.
  • How do I get to the G Lodge Amazon from Puerto Maldonado?

  • Are international flights included in the tour price?

    No, international flights are generally not included in the price of your tour. Internal flights between Lima or Cuzco and Puerto Maldonado are also not included but can be arranged at the time of booking.
  • Are laundry facilities available at the lodge?

    Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge. We suggest bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap if you plan to do your own laundry.
